Yoga for Kayakers

I’m offering free weekly yoga classes as part of the SWWK Kayaking Community during Lockdown 3.0 in the UK. Any other paddlers are very welcome.

I enjoyed sharing yoga classes so much last lockdown I’m gonna do it again this time. If there are enough people I’m happy to offer an extra class each week and also add some different times so more people can get involved.

Hopefully it will help you (and me) keep sane and be more on our game when we get to paddle again…

I will be teaching a range of static (stretching) postures and dynamic strengthening postures from a mix of yoga styles (hatha, kundalini, Tibetan) and maybe some movements from martial arts / qi gong. It will all focus on improving your movement and strength for kayaking. We’ll also do a little breathwork and meditation to help with our headgame and focus.

The classes will take place via Zoom. You need to install the app on your device or computer before the class. Find the app in Google Play Store or Apple Store or see https://zoom.us

Use the form below to sign-up. I will send out unique Zoom meeting codes before each class. Please don’t share the email with others ask them to sign-up here.

Only people who have signed up and names/emails are recognised will be admitted to the class for security reasons. Once you sign-up you will receive a confirmation email for GDPR purposes you must click the link in this email if you want to receive the class invites.

By taking part in any of these yoga sessions you understand that neither Angad, nor Kundalini Rising Yoga & Meditation, is liable for any injury, or damages, to person or property, resulting from the taking of the class.

If at any time during the class, you feel discomfort or strain, gently come out of the posture. It is important in yoga that you listen to your body, and respect its limits on any given day. If you feel like you need to take a break, listen to your body and take a break. You should not perform any postures to the extent of strain or pain.

Class checklist:

  • Please make sure you are using the most up to date version of Zoom for security purposes.
  • Please make sure you set up somewhere you have space to participate in movement and will be able to hear instructions/see demonstration.
  • Wear something you can move and stretch in.
  • Have a glass/bottle of water available and drink regularly during the session.
  • If you have a yoga mat the would be awesome – but it isn’t fully necessary.
  • I recommend having a blanket on hand to cover yourself when we relax during the class and also a cushion to sit on when we do breathwork or meditation.
  • I would prefer it if you have your camera on during the class, this is so I can see what you are doing and offer feedback if necessary. If you are not happy to be seen, this is also fine but I ask you to take extra care and work within your body’s limits.I can’t offer advice if I can’t see you.
  • I will mute all participants when I am talking/ teaching to avoid distractions. If you have questions you will need to unmute yourself to speak (button in bottom left on most devices).
